Cleaning Help

Families are provided with nutritious dinners for two weeks or longer following the birth of a newborn or in a case where a parent caretaker is undergoing or recovering from a medical procedure. Each month we provide food for approximately 2 to 8 families per month.

Suppers are furnished by the Greater Monsey Chabad Community according to our outreach via phone calls, email, and messaging apps. We use www.mealtrain.com to schedule and organize meals. Most meals are prepared by volunteers and occasionally purchased from restaurants when the demand warrants. We also have made arrangements with local area restaurants for meal donations. We pay special attention to dietary restrictions.

Services and Support

Shifra Puah ensures that new mothers are taken care of. We provide a full range of services, including meals, financial stipends, cleaning help, baby nurses, and stays in kimpeturin convalescent homes.

Meal deliveries

For a kimpeturin, cooking dinners for the family can feel like an impossible task. Shifra Puah uses an online platform to quickly streamline the process of enlisting volunteers to cook and deliver meals. Everyone can see who has signed up to cook and when food will arrive. Kashrus standards are adhered to, and special diet requests are accommodated.

Cleaning help

Life with a newborn can get messy. Shifra Puah steps in and provides cleaning help to keep things afloat amidst the joyous hubbub of a new baby. Parents can breathe a little easier knowing that their home is swept, kept, and tidy, gifted with love by their community.

Baby nurses

A good night’s sleep is essential for new mothers and their families! A baby nurse can help everyone rest and get back to themselves faster and in the comfort of their own homes. Shifra Puah assists with funding to make this possible when finances would otherwise stand in the way.

Kimpeturin home stays

Round the clock care following a birth should be a reality, not a dream! Shifra Puah helps subsidize the cost of postpartum rehabilitation facilities. Mothers can bond with their babies while recovering in a pampered, supportive setting and return to their families feeling rested and whole.

Stipend

Financial stipends

With extra blessings come extra expenses. Shifra Puah provides financial assistance to families struggling to stabilize their economic equilibrium after welcoming a newborn baby. With the help of Shifra Puah’s stipends, parents can enjoy their little bundle of joy without worrying about how they’ll make ends meet.

What can we do to help?

“They say it takes a village to raise a child, and that fact was made clear when I had my baby. It wasn’t just a meal train. Shifra Puah reassured me that I wasn’t alone.”

Meet the founder

Karen Schild

Almost 30 years ago, two weeks after giving birth to my premature twins, I arrived home from the hospital and found a box of prepared food waiting for me on my doorstep. Knowing that someone had cooked and delivered a warm meal for me gave me an indescribable feeling of support and relief.
Since then, it has been my mission to ensure that every mother in our Monsey Anash community feels just as loved, nurtured, and supported during their time after giving birth.

Hear their stories

“From meals to cleaning help, Shifra Puah made sure I had all the support I needed, and continued to reach out even 3 weeks after the baby to ensure I was okay. I could not have done it without them!”

Mrs. Z., Pomona

“In addition to the practical benefits of the meals and cleaning help, it’s so special to know that the community is excited for you, and there to share in all your joyous occasions as well as challenges.”

Mrs. F., Pomona

“Karen was really on the ball. She gave me a lot of 1:1 attention in terms of touching base with the cleaning schedule and asking me which days were convenient for meals.”

Mrs. J., Suffern

There’s nothing like a fresh, home-cooked meal (that I didn’t have to make!) to celebrate a new baby or l’havdil when going through a loss or a challenging time. Knowing that there is a community behind the hot dinner, people who love and care about you, makes it even more delicious!

Mr. F, Monsey, NY

“Baruch Hashem, I had the zechus of receiving services from Shifra Puah for 7 babies. It’s not my nature to ask for help, and I never had to ask! Each time, I’d get a message, “Hey, when do you want the Meal Train?”. Karen asks about every detail, from allergies to scheduling to the number of people in the household. I was so touched.”

Mrs. S., Pomona

When my husband was in a car accident, we received daily lunches and dinners for over a month. It was such an unbelievable support and help for our family at the time. We are so grateful!

From a small grassroots established over three decades ago, Shifra Puah has blossomed into a thriving chesed network.
Monsey’s population has boomed in recent years, expanding into neighboring villages. Shifra Puah is looking for chesed volunteers to help coordinate meals and services in their areas so that every kimpeturin feels the same unparalleled small-town warmth and care.
